That was your World Money Fair 2018

A large, attractive and – for exhibition and dealers – utterly successful event was over when the WORLD MONEY FAIR closed on Sunday.

With around 330 exhibitors and over 15,000 visitors the Berlin fair has once again lived up to its reputation as the most important trade and industry platform, leaving both the coin collectors and the international minting experts satisfied.

We invite you to relive the best moments of the past weekend. All of you have contributed to make our event a perfect success. For this, we would now like to thank you again!

Thursday: Excitement is mounting

While last preparations are underway in the exhibition halls, around 400 attendants gather at the 14th International Technical Forum.

As early as today – one day before the official opening – international companies from the supplying industry are presenting brand-new technologies in the new exhibition areas of the Estrel Congress Center. First time here and in operation: a state-of-the-art minting press by Sack & Kiesselbach.

In parallel, costly rarities and coin collections are changing hands at the highest bids in the Estrel Room. When, in the evening, the last lots come up to be sold at the 13th Berlin Auction, the representatives of Künker Auction House are very satisfied. “With a total hammer price of nearly 10 million euro we have achieved an impressing auction result,” say the auction organizers, which also participate as exhibitors in the fair.

On Thursday night many of the freshly arrived exhibitors are already celebrating their reunion at the Samlerhuset Group reception or at the traditional Get-Together, again hosted by Schuler and Spaleck this year.

Friday: The kick-off

10:00 AM: More than one thousand people excitedly waiting for the official opening.

After a short while, the exhibition booths and dealers’ tables are abuzz with activity. Everyone finds what they are looking for, also discovering special promotions offered only at the fair – such as the € 2 commemorative coins arrived just in time for the opening.

Besides the latest coin of the Länder series, “hot from the press”, a coin commemorating the former chancellor Helmut Schmidt and the new fairy tales coin “Frog prince” from the € 20 silver series are on show. On top of that, Friday sees the first presentation of the new German € 5 collectors’ coin “Subtropical zone” which includes an orange-colored polymer ring symbolizing the subtropical zone.

At the same time, around 350 international visitors meet at the annual Media Forum to catch up on the latest coin programs of mints operating worldwide.

The official welcome gala for this year’s Guest of Honor – the Netherlands, represented by the Royal Dutch Mint – held tonight is the central social event of the fair. On this occasion the coveted World Money Fair Award is presented, as well. This year, it goes to the representatives of machine builders Sack & Kiesselbach GmbH, honored for their innovation performance in minting.

For all night owls, the Berufsverband des Deutschen Münzenfachhandels comes up with a special treat: At midnight, a “currywurst” sausage is served with the last drinks in the Estrel lobby. A great occasion for many to let an eventful day wind down on a nice note in the company of friends.

Saturday: Hustle and bustle in the exhibition halls

It’s one attraction after another – our visitors appreciate it, indulging in special atmosphere, available only here once a year.

Talking shop at the traditional “weisswurst” snack hosted by the Bayrische Landesbank in the morning …

… and of course at the Guest of Honor’s booth. Apart from the guest-of-honor penny issued especially for the fair, the Royal Dutch Mint attracts the public with freshly made “stroopwafels” which send their delicious scent all over the exhibition hall.

In the afternoon the traditional award ceremony of the prestigious Coin of the Year Award takes place. The awardees are proud and happy to receive this special prize.

The evening belongs to the social events of numismatics. The reception hosted by MDM Münzhandelsgesellschaft celebrates the 125th anniversary of the family business Richard Borek GmbH & Co. KG with show and music, leaving the guests thrilled.

Sunday: Coins, coins, coins, all over

We would like thank all those again who have been involved in the event for supporting us, and for the wonderful program and attractions.

Once the fair is over, the next one is announced. We wish all World Money Fair visitors and exhibitors a happy and fruitful year 2018 and are looking forward to see everyone again on the weekend of February 1st to 3rd, 2019.

Make sure you are a part of it when everything revolves around numismatic attractions and precious metals again.

We look forward to seeing you!
