That Was Your World Money Fair 2013

Impressions From A Successful Event

Around 15,000 guests and over 320 exhibitors made the 42nd World Money Fair a wonderful event. We would like to say a sincere thank you to you and all our guests in the form of the following fair impressions.

The Prelude

While final set-up work was still going on in the exhibition halls, the first social highlight took place on the Wednesday. As a prelude to the forthcoming fair, representatives of Monnaie de Paris and its numerous guests got together at the French Embassy.

Thursday: The Excitement Mounts

The experts still largely have the venue to themselves on the day before the Fair. Both the MDC Marketing Committee and the 42nd International Technical Forum are mainly discussions about technical innovations in minting and the future of the industry. And as in every year on the day before the Fair: The grand Berlin Auction was staged by the Fritz Rudolf Künker Auction House. With total sales of over 7.6 million euro the auctioneers again achieved a record result. The most expensive individual item was a half Imperial, which changed hands for the princely sum of 180,000 euro.

Friday: The Kick-Off

10 a.m.: Hundreds of visitors wait expectantly for the Fair’s official opening. A short while later there is plenty of activity at the exhibition booths and dealer tables. Here everyone is able to find what they are looking for. In addition, many of the guests at the 42nd International Media Forum are interested in finding out about the latest minting programs.

After so much information and the hustle and bustle of the Fair, many look forward to a change of pace and a relaxing evening. For example, at the traditional reception hosted by the Perth Mint or the grand Gala Dinner in honor of the French Monnaie de Paris. This is when the coveted World Money Fair Award was presented. This year it went to Dr. Hubert Lanz, whose life’s work in the field of numismatics was recognized and honored.

Saturday: The Second Fair Day With A Packed Program

The stream of visitors is never ending and in the afternoon many of them go to watch the presentation of the Coin of the Year Award.

As always, the evening is a get together of numismatists. At the Berufsverband des Deutschen Münzenfachhandels and at a reception given by Gräbener Pressensysteme and Münze Österreich AG.

Sunday: And Then It’s Time To Say Goodbye Again

The crowds flock to the Fair once again and then the time to say goodbye approaches.
