That was your World Money Fair 2015

We are and remain the most important numismatic event worldwide! With a stable attendance of over 15,000 visitors and over 330 exhibitors, the 44th World Money Fair has been another inspiring experience in many respects. We invite you to review the countless highlights of the past weekend with our impressions from the fair. All of you have contributed to this wonderful event, and therefore we would like to extend sincere thanks to everybody!

The Prelude

While builders, exhibitors and organizers are still busy preparing everything in the exhibition halls, Wednesday already sees the first important numismatic event. On occasion of the launch of the new “Gallipoli” coin set, the representatives of the four participating countries Australia, New Zealand, Turkey and Great Britain meet at the World Money Fair. On invitation of the Royal Australian Mint (RAM) the four exquisite pieces are officially unveiled.

Thursday: The suspense builds

On the day prior to the fair, the experts are mostly among themselves. Both at the MDWG Plenary Meeting and the MDC Marketing Committee international coin specialists gather for discussion to meet gain at the 11th International Technical Forum.

Suspense is palpable at the yearly auction held by the Künker Company, a leading auction and trading house for of coins and medals. In the evening, as the last lots go under the hammer, the auctioneers are very satisfied: “With a total sale price of 8.6 million Euro we have achieved a top result again this year!”

Meanwhile, the assembly in the exhibition rooms is almost finished and many exhibitors enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at the Samlerhuset Group reception and the traditional get-together hosted by Schuler and Spaleck.

Later in the evening, mainly international experts in precious metals meet for a dinner hosted by the Rand Refinery from South Africa.

Friday: The Kick-Off

10:00am – The first thousand visitors, full of anticipation, are waiting for the official opening of the coin fair after a just little while it is getting crowded at the exhibition booths and dealers’ tables.

Everyone finds what they are looking for, enjoying attractions planned by exhibitors especially for the occasion. A special limited edition of the 1 dollar coin, designed by the RAM exclusively for the Berlin fair, met with very lively interest – these Australian dollars feature the Berlin “Ampelmann” as a privy mark.

Moreover, many visitors are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new German 2 euro commemorative coins, fresh from the mint. At the same time, the audience at the Media Forum is keen to get information about the latest coin programs of mints from all over the world.

Traditionally, the Media Forum concludes with a reception hosted by Poongsan and the Austrian Mint. Later, numerous guests meet at the yearly reception of the Perth Mint and of course at the great gala dinner in honor of the Royal Australian Mint.

At this unique event, the prestigious World Money Fair Award is presented. This year, it goes to Larry Chan whose lifetime achievements in numismatics are recognized and honored with this special award.

Saturday: More Hustle and Bustle at the Coin Show

In the morning: One attraction after another. Our visitors do appreciate that and in the afternoon they enjoy the great atmosphere at the presentation of the coveted Coin of the Year Award.

As always, the evening is spent in the company of dear colleagues. On invitation of the Berufsverband des Deutschen Münzenfachhandels or at Bar jeder Vernunft with MDM Münzhandelsgesellschaft, or at the reception hosted by Gräbener Pressensysteme and the Austrian Mint.

Sunday: One more Time, full Speed ahead …

… for the final rush of visitors and then it’s almost time to say good-bye again.
