That was your World Money Fair 2017

We are, and remain, the most important event in the branch anywhere in the world!

With around 330 exhibitors and more than 15,000 visitors the 46th World Money Fair was enthusiastically received by coin lovers from all over the world.

Here you can once again savour the highlights of last weekend. You all contributed to making this event an enjoyable and successful one.

Again, a big thank you to you all!

The Prelude

While installations and preparations are still busily going on in the exhibition halls, the first numismatic highlight took place on Wednesday.

At the reception held in the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Berlin’s Tiergartenstrasse, the guests of honour at this year‘s World Money Fair, with their friends and partners, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the world-famous “Krügerrand”.

Thursday: The tension rises

The MDWG Plenary Meeting is held in the morning. Afterwards, many of the participants take the opportunity to attend the 13th International Technical Forum: with around 400 visitors, attendance this year is higher than ever before. In the framework of this event the new “Innovation Award” is presented for the first time by Dr Prabir De.

There is also great excitement at the annual auction organised by the German auction house Künker. In the evening, when the last lots go under the hammer, the auctioneers are more than satisfied: “Thanks to an auction result of 8.8 million euros, we were able to reach an outstanding result once again at our 12th Berlin Auction!” says Ulrich Künker, Managing Director of the Künker auction house.

While the last installation work is being completed in the exhibition halls, many of the exhibitors who have travelled to Berlin are already enjoying their reunions at the reception of the Samlerhuset Group or at the traditional Get Together arranged by Schuler and Spaleck.

Friday: Open at last

10:00 a.m.: Well over a thousand visitors are already eagerly awaiting the official opening of the Fair.

A little later the exhibition stands and dealers’ tables are buzzing with activity. Here, everyone finds what they’re looking for and experiences highlights unique to the Fair – for example, the arrival of the 2 euro commemorative coin that appears freshly minted every year at the start of the World Money Fair.

Alongside this, around 350 guests at the annual Media Forum are given information on the most recent minting programmes of international mints.

In the afternoon many exhibitors meet at the annual reception given by The Perth Mint

… and in the evening, they are of course present at the gala dinner in honour of the South African guests of honour.

At this unique event the coveted World Money Fair Award is also presented. This year it is given to the Coin Cabinet of the Berlin State Museums which receives the world famous and coveted award in recognition of its efforts in the service of numismatics.

Saturday: Crowds grow in the exhibition halls

Morning: One attraction follows on the heels of the next – our visitors appreciate this and enjoy the unique atmosphere.

Experts also share interesting conversations at the traditional feast of veal and pork sausages organised by Bayrische Landesbank

… and at the now traditional champagne reception given by France‘s Monnaie de Paris.

Before many of the exhibitors and their guests prepare for the evening’s social events, in the afternoon the traditional presentation of the coveted Coin of the Year Award takes place. The happy laureates are delighted to receive this special distinction.

As always the evening is reserved for numismatic get-togethers – with Berufsverband des Deutschen Münzenfachhandels as well as MDM Münzhandelsgesellschaft in “Bar jeder Vernunft” or at the dinner given by Gräbener Pressensysteme and Münze Österreich AG.

Sunday: Once more full power ahead …

… for the final rush of visitors.

We wish all our visitors and exhibitors a happy and successful 2017 and hope to see you all again on 2 – 4 February 2018.

Join us when once again minted precious metals and numismatic highlights take centre stage. We look forward to seeing you!

With best wishes
