That was your World Money Fair 2016

We are and remain the most important coin trade and industry event worldwide!

With around 330 exhibitors and over 15,000 visitors the 45th World Money Fair was in many respects an inspiring experience.

Look back on the highlights of the past weekend. You have all contributed to this great and successful event.

For this we say thank you!

The Prelude

While builders, exhibitors and organizers are still busy preparing everything in the exhibition halls, Wednesday sees the first numismatic top event.

At the elegant French Embassy the Monnaie de Paris presents its “Euro Star” program.

And then it’s time for the real work: The members of the MDC Marketing Committee discuss aspects of international coin marketing.

In the evening the traditional Guest of Honor reception takes place, hosted this year by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.

Thursday: The suspense builds

In the morning, the MDWG Plenary Meeting is held. Many participants afterward use the opportunity to participate in the 12th International Technical Forum, which with 350 is very well attended again this year.

There is also much excitement at the annual auction conducted by Künker, the German auction house. When the last lots are sold in the evening, the organizers are highly satisfied. “With a total turnover of 6.6 million Euro we have achieved a top result again at our 11th Berlin Auction”, says Ulrich Künker, the company’s managing director.

While the finishing touch is put to the exhibition booths, many of the just arrived exhibitors are celebrating their reunion at the Samlerhuset Group reception or at the traditional get-together hosted by Schuler and Spaleck. Later in the evening, international experts for precious metals meet at the dinner hosted by the Rand Refinery and the South African Mint.

Friday: The Kick-Off

10:00 AM: Over one thousand visitors are eagerly waiting for the official opening of the coin show. After a little while, the exhibition booths and coin dealers’ tables are buzzing with activity. Here everyone finds what they are looking for, enjoying the attractions planned especially for the fair – like the arrival of the new German 2-euro commemorative coins, launched each year at the World Money Fair.

At the same time, about 350 people attend the Media Forum where the latest coin programs by international mints are presented every year.

Immediately afterward – a world sensation: Germany introduces the most innovative coin of the moment – a 5-euro piece with an integrated polymer ring.

In the afternoon, the Perth Mint invites exhibitors to its annual reception …

… and the great gala for our Guests of Honor from South Korea takes place in the evening.

At this exclusive event, the prestigious World Money Fair Award is presented. This year it goes to Kirsten Petersen whose lifetime achievements in numismatics are recognized and honored with this extraordinary prize.

Saturday: More Hustle and Bustle at the Coin Show

In the morning, it’s just one attraction after another. Our visitors appreciate that and are thoroughly enjoying the special atmosphere.

An extremely happy occasion: Michael Chou, owner of a Hong Kong auction house, hands over valuable Chinese coin dies as a donation to the coin cabinet of Moritzburg Museum of the city of Halle.

Shortly after, the Austrian Mint reveals its latest project. The popular Philharmonic coin now minted in pure platinum.

The Coin of the Year Award ceremony is scheduled for the afternoon. The awardees are very pleased to receive this coveted prize.

The evening is spent in the company of dear colleagues, on invitation of Berufsverband des Deutschen Münzenfachhandels, and also on invitation of MDM Münzhandelsgesellschaft, or at the dinner hosted by Gräbener Pressensysteme and the Austrian Mint.

Sunday: One more time, full speed ahead …

… for the final rush of visitors.

And then it’s almost time to say good-bye again.

A happy and successful year 2016 to all participants and exhibitors! We are looking forward to see you again on the weekend of February 3 to 5, 2017.

Join us when everything revolves around precious metals and numismatic attractions again, and we welcome our new Guest of Honor: South Africa, represented by the South African Mint Company and Rand Refinery.

Good-bye and take care!
